NORM
Dimitri Bruni (*1970) and Manuel Krebs (*1970) founded the Zurich-based studio NORM in 1999, and Ludovic Varone (*1977) joined in 2005.
For a quarter of a century, NORM’s programmatic approach – suggested by their name – has informed their commissioned work for the cultural field, their self-initiated publications and their typefaces, which they use extensively in almost everything they produce. Their monospace LL Simple (2000) was introduced in the conceptual booklets NORM: Introduction (1999) and NORM: The Things (2002), before they developed and extensively tested the purposefully low-res sans serif LL Replica, eventually released in 2008.
The equally systematic sans LL Riforma has served as the primary typographic voice for their work since 2012. After the release in 2018, it also occurred in the expansive handbook NORM: Dimension of Two (2020). In early 2024, LL Riforma was complemented with a small monospace family. A variable version is available on demand.
NORM have designed books for dozens of contemporary artists, while their long-standing working relationships with Peter Fischli, Florian Hecker, Simon Starling and Shirana Shahbazi include multiple forms of collaboration. Since 2019, they have been in charge of the identity at Triennale Milano under President Stefano Boeri, and they have become regular consultants on exhibition design at LUMA foundation. They are art-directing the Singles book series for the Canadian Centre for Architecture (since 2020).
