Clemens Piontek
(*1987) received a BA in Visual Communication from ECAL/Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne in 2014 and then interned at Bonbon in Zurich. Following 2015 he slowly built his own Zurich-based studio, while also contributing to the identity for Skulptur Projekte Münster by Lehni/Trueb (2015–17) and to the identity for Bad Bonn Kilbi by Studio Adeline Mollard (2018). From 2018 to 2022, he was responsible for the various websites of Schauspielhaus Zurich at Studio Laurenz Brunner, and he has been the Art Director at Source Type since 2018. For architects Christ-Gantenbein and ETH Zurich, he has been designing a yearly publication since 2022.
Clemens’ LL Home (forthcoming in 2024) set out from Spartan Classified and was first conceived as part of the Skulptur Projekte Münster identity. Clemens then expanded the project into a total of four related typefaces, which earned him a nomination on the Swiss Design Awards in 2022. At Maxitype in early 2024, he released a display typeface called Mosaic, derived from the five-letter logo of Italian manufacturers of tiles, Cilsa.
