Minjong Kim
(*1994) received a BFA in Visual Communication Design from Hongik University in Seoul in 2018. He worked in brand design and as an independent designer for the non-commercial Seoul art scene. In 2023, he completed the MA program in Type Design at ECAL in Lausanne.
Minjong’s thesis project encompassed two typefaces. His calligraphic serif for display and text, Amateur, features an unusual letter system constructed from individual hand-crafted shapes. Quirk 85 (in collaboration with Juanjun Feng) is a multi-lingual script in Korean, Chinese and Latin reflecting on 1980s Korean and Chinese corporate graphics in high-performance production-centred industries under Western influence.
Since joining Lineto in late 2023, Minjong has been working on multi-script typefaces. Among other projects, he is currently reframing and expanding LL Autoscape which is scheduled for imminent release on Lineto.
