Marco Walser/Elektrosmog
Marco Walser (*1973) and Valentin Hindermann (*1966) founded Elektrosmog in 1999, a year after graduating from Hochschule für Gestaltung in Zurich. Their interest in vernacular graphic design idioms led them to adapt fonts such as LL Brauer (1999), LL Storno (1999) and LL Le Corbusier Oldface (2004). As Elektrosmog, they created visual environments for Zurich eatery Bananen & Frucht, Kunsthaus Glarus, the Swiss Design Awards and others. In the mid 2000s, they made a name for themselves as book designers for editions by Parkett, Kunsthaus Zurich, Das Magazin and others.
Following 2010, Valentin gradually stepped away from Elektrosmog, eventually setting up his own design practice in Zürich, while Marco remained in charge of visual communication for Kunsthaus Aarau (2008–18) and for Theater Chur (2010–19). In 2013, Marco redrew and expanded the LL Brauer font family, which is now available in all its new-found splendour. Today, Elektrosmog is responsible for the architecture magazine Werk, Bauen + Wohnen, and focusses on books and publications for Architects, artists, and museums. Since early 2024, they are in charge of the graphic idenitity of Zürich’s Filmpodium, the city’s most beautiful cinema.
