Luca Pellegrini
(*1989) holds a BA in Visual Communication from SUPSI/University of Applied Sciences and Art of Southern Switzerland (2016), and a MA in Type Design from ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne (2019). His BA project on Xanti Schawinsky’s work at Milan-based Studio Boggeri in the 1930s yielded a typeface, which was later released under the name Xants as part of Adobe’s ‘Hidden Treasures of Bauhaus’.
In 2019, Luca joined Lineto as a full-time type designer. He has since acted as an occasional mentor for type design projects at SUPSI in Lugano. In consultation with Christian Mengelt, and drawing from historical documents provided by Alfred Hoffmann, the Haas foundry’s last director, Luca created the LL Unica77 Condensed family. Currently, he is working on making LL Unica77 into a variable font.
Luca also contributed to LL Atomgrad, a formal redevelopment of a graphic stencil font by Stephan Müller, originally published as FF Chernobyl in 1998. His interpretation of the typewriter font of Xanti Schawinsky’s Olivetti ‘LL Electa’ model is scheduled for a future release on Lineto.com.
