Céline Odermatt

Céline Odermatt

(*1989) holds a BA in Graphic Design from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU, 2013), and an MA in Type Design from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (KABK, 2019). For her MA thesis, supervised by Erik van Blokland, she devised a variable font in a tetrahedron design space to examine how various pen angles apply to the construction of a sans serif typeface.

Céline teaches Type Design and Glyph Foundation at HSLU and beyond. Based in Zurich, she counts Weltkunst and other magazines from Zeit-Verlag among her clients.

Since 2020, Céline has been a library manager at Lineto with a strong focus on design. She coordinates and refines the production of typefaces in close exchange with external and internal designers as well as with the font mastering specialists at Alphabet, Berlin.

As a type designer, Céline worked on the redesign of the decorative typeface LL Tabletten (2021, with Anatole Couteau and Weichi He). In close collaboration with Rosmarie Tissi, Grande Dame of Swiss graphic design, she redraw and expanded Tissi’s Sinaloa and Sonora alphabets from the early 1970s, and is currently re-drawing a digital version of Tissi’s Mindanao alphabet.
