Jonas Williamsson
After graduating from Konstfack in Stockholm in 1999, Jonas Williamsson (*1973) launched REALA with illustrator Samuel Nyholm and graphic designer Laurent Benner, who Samuel met during an exchange semester at Central Saint Martins in London. By the early 2000s, REALA became internationally known for their unique blend of graphic design and illustration. Their visual worlds reflected the specificities of their components – which included their own fonts, such as LL Biff (1999), and short animated movies – as well as their collaborative working processes.
Since 2007, Jonas has been running his own Stockholm based graphic design practice. He has worked for clients such as MDT, the Department of Dance at Stockholm University of the Arts, and Arkdes. He is also a frequent collaborator of artists Sagovolvo and Kim Hiorthøy. One of his more recent research explorations into type design has yielded a newfound version of the typeface for Swedish road signs, Tratex, which is currently awaiting publication.
