Desktop OpenType or TrueType
Lineto delivers both OpenType and TrueType fonts as standard for all desktop licences. Although both formats work on both Mac and Windows platforms, there are a few issues and features to keep in mind.
OpenType fonts are preferred by designers who work on Mac and in applications such as the Adobe Creative Suite. These fonts contain numerous advanced typographic OpenType features such as Ligatures, Tabular Lining, Stylistic Sets, etc., which are easily accessible in the OpenType menu of those applications. OpenType fonts may however not be compatible with certain CAD and plotting applications. Please check the software manufacturers specifications.
TrueType fonts are preferred by users working with Microsoft applications and on Windows machines. Due to the particular screen rendering properties of the Windows, operating system, TrueType fonts take advantage of a technology called hinting for improved appearance and legibility on low resolution monitors and printers, particularly when using small point sizes. Lineto’s TrueType fonts are meticulously and manually hinted by our own in-house team.
