Minjong Kim

Minjong Kim

Minjong Kim (*1994) studied Visual Communication Design at Hongik University in Seoul. After graduation in 2018, he worked as an independent graphic designer in Seoul’s art and cultural scene. He received an MA in Type Design from ECAL in Lausanne in 2023 and a Swiss Design Award in 2025 for his thesis project ‘Quirk 85’, developed with Juanjun Feng. The project traces the peculiar ways in which typographic styles of Western corporate culture were adopted, reproduced and transformed across different East Asian scripts in commercial graphic design following the 1980s.

Moving to Zurich to join Lineto in 2023, Minjong Kim revisited Cornel Windlin’s 1990s techno-brutalist ‘Autoscape’ typeface for the masthead of fashion magazine AnOther Man, subsequently redeveloping it for release in 2024. He directed the development of Unica77 Hangul, which was created in close collaboration with Mingoo Yoon and is scheduled for release at the end of 2026. He has been collaborating on various bespoke typeface projects, investigated the various historical sources of Haas Unica, and co-designed Unica77 Condensed. Minjong is constantly working on the development of his personal type projects.
